My name is Stewart Yu and I’m a Vancouver, BC-based technologist and musician. I recently graduated from UBC with a B.Sc in Computer Science (minor in Music) in May 2009.

I started dabbling in web development when I was 13, creating several personal homepages and fan sites along the way. After gaining entrance to UBC’s co-op program in 2005, I began working professionally with one45 Software, Blackboard Inc. and Kinzin. I’ve been working with AJAX since its explosion onto the web in 2004, using AJAX/Javascript frameworks such as Prototype and jQuery. Along the way, I’ve found my niche in user interface design and development.

I’ve been playing piano since age six, studying with Rebecca Kelly and David Vandereyk. In 2000, I earned a diploma as an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto in piano performance. In 2006, I started getting involved in regional music productions and have since performed in numerous musicals, operas, concerts and cabarets, both as a singer and pianist. I’ve also co-written and directed a jukebox musical, YouLtd., which played to a sold-out audience in April 2007.

Currently, I’m developing the user interface for Kinzin‘s social networking tools. I’m also working on composing Next, Please!, an original musical and conducting Vancouver’s premiere production of William Finn’s A New Brain.
